Minutes of the October 8, 2017 meeting of the Michiana Bonsai Study

Present:    Larry Benjamin, Cody Chilson, Mary Hesser and Kathy Lee

Location:    Eastlake Terrace Senior Living Center,  3109 E. Bristol St., Elkhart

Program:

            Larry distributed two handouts, one on fall care and another on overwintering bonsai, which we read

and discussed. Individual circumstances, species and availability were important factors considered.

As different overwintering strategies came up, we gave some thought as to where some knowledge of

these approaches, as well as other bonsai practices, arise. The attendence and participation in various

shows and conventions was stressed, including the Michigan All State Show, Chicago (Midwest) show, and

the Hidden Lake Garden show were mentioned as annual opportunities for such growth.

Some ideas of programming for 2018 were discussed as well. Mary brought up the concept of a "bonsai day"

at the 2018 Elkhart County Fair and we considered how this might be implimented.

Also, Larry reminded everyone that in 2018 we will not meet in January and our meetings will be on the first

 instead of the second Sunday of the month. We will meet at Linton's in February and March, as usual.
