President Larry Benjamin began the meeting with a short business meeting. He reported the current balance in the club's treasury as $735.31. Following the second passage of a change of our club charter consolidating responsibilities to a single officer (the president), an additional change was passed for the second consecutive meeting, as provided in the charter to amnend it. As passed, the change states that, "On the seconded motion by any two members, an independent audit of the club's finances will be taken." (See "Club Charter" for the complete and current version of the charter.)

Next, Sue Salach moved and Kathy Lee seconded the following resolution, which passed unanimously: "Be it resolved that on this 8th day of March, 2015, the members of the Michiana Bonsai Study, in recognition of her years of support of the art of bonsai for those in Michiana, do hereby confer upon Cheryl Owens the title and honor of Michiana Bonsai Study Sensei Emeritus, entitling her to lifelong membership in our club." Larry then presented Cheryl with a framed copy of the resolution along with two pictures, one of Cheryl working on a tree at one of our meetings and another of one of Cheryl's bonsai trees.

During the the remainder of the meeting Paul Weishaar, a bonsai artist from Indianapolis, demonstrated how he chose to develop a Chinese elm which he had collected several years ago. Paul included considerations such as the choice of a front, which branches to remove and which to retain, and the creation of carved dead wood, which he demonstrated using his die grinder. He hopes to bring the tree back in a couple of years to let us see how it has grown and developed according to his vision.
