Minutes of the June 5, 2022 meeting of the Michiana Bonsai Study
Present:
Larry Benjamin, Diane Buday, Lisa Chilik, John DeMaegd, Mary Hesser, Jimmie Lyon, Kevin Mann and Al Whitfield
Location: Home of Larry Benjamin, Bristol, Indiana
Program:
The weather was perfect for getting some spring work done on our trees. Re-potting proved to be the main activity. Diane got
her nice juniper into a proper bonsai pot. Mary also had brought a juniper to re-pot - a Juniper chinensis 'Sea Green'. Lisa brought
several trees but ony re-potted her attractive little Japanese maple. John re-potted a Bougainvillia with nice little leaves. Meanwhile,
Kevin had a Ficus which was getting a little "leggy" so he did some needed pruning to bring it back into shape. Al transplanted a
white tea into a growing pot. And, he distributed American chestnut seedlings to several members.
There was a little "show-and-tell" at the meeting as well. Al brought a Ficus which he had acquired at the Rendezvous on the River.
With a very nice trunk, he brought back a "steal" based on the price that he paid. Larry had three things that he had got from Rendezvous
workshops: a dawn redwood, a Satsuki Azalea and a three-tree planting of Harland boxwoods on a rock.
This was our last working meeting until the fall. In July (the 23rd) we are invited to the Ft. Wayne club's auction and picnic. And,
in August we hope that as many members as possible will take in the Chicago show at the Chicago Botanical Garden in Glencoe, Illinois.
