Program:
After enjoying Kathy's treats and getting to know each other, we took care of some
club business. Larry Benjamin was re-elected president. He gave a report of the current
balance in the club's treasury. Larry also presented a proposed schedule of activities
for 2016. He suggested adding a field trip to Benedict's Nursery near Nappanee, which
features a wide selection of dwarf & unusual conifers. Larry had several possible dates
which Benedict's had said would work. From these we chose May 7 for the field trip.
Larry reported that a reporter had contacted him about doing an article and
distrbuted copies of "The Paper" which published the story. He also showed everyone
the booklet covering bonsai care & maintenance which he had published last year.
Larry then distributed excerpts from that booklet covering January - April in order
to provide attendees with a winter care & maintenance reference (the meeting's topic).
The bulk of the meeting was spent discussing that topic as well as addressing some
concerns that were brought up.
During the meeting Larry emphasized that everyone should try to attend our two
premier events this year: next month's meeting, where Mark Fields from Indianapolis
will give us a demonstration on trident maple styling and, the American Bonsai
Convention which will be held at Meijer Gardens May 13 - 15 this year.
