Program:
Scott Yelich, president of the Indianapolis bonsai club, presented a program on tropical bonsai, especially as indoor bonsai. He presented a variety of tropical and subtropical species suitable for indoor bonsai. Then, he gave us tips for maintaining the health and vigor of these trees. Finally, Scott used a 20+ year old Ficus benjamina to illustrate how old defects can be delt with by pruning, wiring, and, most dramatically, by cutting off the entire top of this species (which is capable of regrowth from below the cut to create a dense, small tree with an impressive trunk).
