Minutes of the February 2, 2022 meeting of the Michiana Bonsai Study
Present: Larry Benjamin, Lisa Chilik, Mike Cope, John Deguara, John DeMaegd, Mary Hesser,
Location: Linton's Enchanted Gardens
Program:
We discussed several points of business during this meeting. Larry announced that our club's bank account is at an all-time
high going into the 2022 year. He also noted that anyone who needs a bonsai pot can get one at our March meeting where our guest
presenter, Mark Fields, will bring pots for those who need them. In order for Mark to bring pots to fill our needs, anyone who is
interested should send Larry the specifications (size, preferred shape, glazed or unglazed, color, if glazed, etc.) of what they are looking
for within the next week. Larry will tabulate and forward this info to Mark who will then bring appropriate pots to the March meeting.
Larry also let members know that there is still a question of whether or not there will be a Wellfield Botanic Garden bonsai show
this summer. Thor RV Corporation has been approaced for the needed financial support. We should get some feedback on this in February.
There was also a discussion of how our website could be improved. It was suggested that the background color for the pages be tan.
And, yellow print was reported to be hard to read. (Larry has tried to change the yellow print and background color of the pages - except
on the Minutes pages, like this, where too many pages would have had to be changed.)
In addition to discussing pots, the program included demonstrations of the pruning of junipers by both John and Larry as well as a
little pruning of a 'Chojubai" Japanese flowering quince by Larry to help it develop. (In terms of bonsai pot selection, it should be noted
that the Journal of the American Bonsai Society is addressing this with the first of a series of articles in Volume 55, No. 4, which came out
at the end of last year.)
