Minutes of the
April 13, 2014 meeting
of the Michiana Bonsai Study
Present:
Larry Benjamin, Rose Benjamin, Jason Bittle, John DeMaegd, Kathy Lee, and Bill & Norma Osborne
Location: Home of Larry & Rose Benjamin, County Road 10, Bristol
Program:
We worked on our own trees. Jason began work on a Shimpaku juniper which he had purchased at last
year's Chicago show by doing some judicous pruning. Kathy started pruning back a large multi-trunk boxwood
which she got at one of her Fort Wayne club meetings. Larry re-potted a trident maple which he purchased from
a dealer in Ohio on his way home from Bill Valavanis' Colloquium last June. But, the tree that he had looking the
most like a bonsai specimen was a Sargent's juniper that John has been working on for awhile. He did some
pruning as well as creating some jins, which produced a fine looking tree.
As we worked, some of our discussion centered around the upcoming Michigan All-State Show in May (the
10th and 11th). All of us except Jason have attended in the past and it was agreed that it's a great show - one
that we hope to attend again.
